(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two men have been arrested following an early morning fire on the city’s east side Sunday.
Fire crews were called to the 2000 block of Southeastern Avenue to the report of an unoccupied structure fire around 3:30 a.m.
When arson detectives arrived to the scene, they were informed by several witnesses that two people were seen around the building shortly before the fire started. Witnesses also told detectives that one of two men threw something at the structure, which then ignited, according to a release.
Detectives later located two men with similar appearances and took them in for questioning.
Both suspects appeared to have soot on their hands, police say. The two men denied starting the fire, but enough evidence was collected to make an arrest on the two believed to be responsible for the fire.
Jason Mobley, 38, and James Long, 25, were arrested on preliminary arson charges. They await formal charges.
No injuries were reported in the fire. Damages are estimated at $40,000
