(MODOC) - A 12-year-old boy was killed Saturday after he was accidentally shot with a gun.
Randolph County Sheriff's Department officials say around 10 p.m., Mitchell Gilliland, 36, said he was placing a rifle in a gun cabinet when it discharged, striking the boy in the chest.
He then called 911.
Police responded to the home, which is in the 4900 block of South 500 West in rural Modoc.
Deputies and emergency personnel performed CPR on the boy. He was taken to St. Vincent-Randolph County in Winchester where he was pronounced dead.
