(FORT WAYNE) - Police in Fort Wayne say a 15-month-old girl died after being hit by a relative’s SUV.
Police say the girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition after she was hit Wednesday evening in a neighborhood on the city's south side.
The girl was struck as the SUV was leaving the home where a family gathering had been held. Police say the driver didn't immediately realize the girl had been hit and drove away, but returned after being contacted by family members.
Relatives drove the girl to a nearby fire station, where medics began treatment and then took her to a hospital.
The girl's name wasn't immediately released and no criminal charges have yet been filed.
