(CROWN POINT) - Police in northwest Indiana say an argument between a couple spiraled into a knife fight that killed the woman and severely injured her boyfriend.
Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land tells The Times that investigators believe the two were arguing Saturday evening when both armed themselves with knives and inflicted several stab wounds on each other.
Medics took both to a hospital where the woman was pronounced dead and the man underwent surgery.
Land said the assault is under investigation by his department, the coroner's office and the Lake County Sheriff's Department's crime lab.
The Lake County coroner's office has tentatively labeled Peters' death a homicide.
