(CROWN POINT) - A former Crown Point boys basketball coach has been acquitted of charges that he engaged in sexual activities with a female student.
The Lake County jury reached the verdict on Thursday clearing 27-year-old Benjamin Chinn. He was arrested last year on child seduction counts charging him with misconduct with a 17-year-old girl in his classroom and office at Hammond's Morton High School.
The Times reports a prosecutor told jurors that Chinn was an attractive and fun coach who took advantage of the girl, while defense attorney Scott King said the girl at first denied the allegations and later changed her account.
King said after the verdict that the charges had wrecked Chinn's coaching career and left him working as a bartender in Arizona.
