(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus woman and her former boyfriend have been charged with neglect in the November death of the woman’s 19-month-old son.
Rachel McCue, 22, and Thomas Gorski, 30, were charged Friday with one count each of neglect and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Both Columbus residents are being held in the Bartholomew County Jail on bond of $250,000.
Police had originally charged just Gorski on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Class A felony.
According to police, the boy's mother called 911 to report that her son, Evan McCue, was unresponsive and lifeless. The child was pronounced dead at Columbus Regional Hospital. The autopsy found that Evan died from a head injury.
According to police, Gorski is not Evan's father, but he lived at the home with the boy's mother.
Over 25 people were interviewed and detectives had obtained 12 search warrants as part of the investigation.
During the preliminary investigation last November, Gorski had been the only one charged in the boys death.
