(GREENWOOD) - Construction began Tuesday on the first of two aquatic centers in Greenwood.
Crews began work on a new splash pad. It will be built at Greenwood's City Center Park and should be open next month.
"We're looking to develop this whole corridor and hopefully serve as an anchor and a message for what folks want in Greenwood," said Molly Laut.
This summer Greenwood also plans to start work on a new $10 million aquatic center.
That will go up at Freedom Park and replace the 'Old Town Pool' that was torn down.
The center will have lazy river and a water slide, which is scheduled to open next summer.
