(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University President Mitch Daniels plans to travel to China to try to expand the school’s economic and educational partnerships.
The former Indiana governor says he will look for ways to advance existing partnerships and seek to forge new ones during the six-day trip beginning Saturday.
Daniels will meet with officials at Nanshan Group, China's second-largest aluminum company. Nanshan announced two years ago it would give Purdue $10 million over five years to support international programs, research and faculty training. Daniels was invited by Nanshan to discuss an aviation project and several other several initiatives.
Daniels also will visit Tsinghua and Shanghai Jiaotong universities, two of Purdue's closest educational partners in China, to discuss joint research projects and other opportunities.
