(LAWRENCE) - Investigators believe a fire that broke out at a Lawrence Church was caused by electrical problems.
The fire broke out before 7 a.m.Thursday morning at the Lawrence Apostolic church on Sunnyside Drive. Firefighters at first thought it was caused by lightning but determined instead it was likely an electrical issue in the men's bathroom of the church.
Heavy smoke filled the building while children were inside.
"We had kids in here this morning. They were in the process of dropping off kids. The building was full of smoke. They started evacuating the building," said Dino Batalis, Lawrence Fire Department.
Everyone made it out safely.
