(GREENCASTLE) - Jeffrey Henry, 49, Greencastle, was issued a summons to appear in Putnam County Court after Indiana Conservation Officers seized a live bald eagle from his residence.
On June 9, Indiana Conservation Officers received an anonymous tip that Mr. Henry was in possession of a bald eagle. Once Officers arrived, the bald eagle was found in Mr. Henry's apartment. The investigation revealed that Mr. Henry captured the juvenile bald eagle near his residence days prior.
The bald eagle was seized and transported to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. The unlawful taking or possession of non-game migratory birds is punishable up to 60 days of jail and fines of 500 dollars.
Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. This law provides protection to the bald eagle and golden eagle by prohibiting the take, possession, sale, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase or barter, transport, export or import, of any bald or golden eagle, alive or dead, including any part, nest, or egg, unless allowed by permit.
