(INDIANAPOLIS) - After being slashed in the face by a passerby and undergoing a pricey surgery, a dog named Bear is doing well.
Norman Cox of RTV6 reports that's the word Monday morning from his owner, William Beatty.
The southeast-side resident said Bear, a 12-year-old German shepherd, had his face slashed by a passerby on Thursday.
Beatty said a man was walking by his home and Bear walked up to the fence, then the man leaned over the fence and took a swipe at the dog.
Apparently he was holding a knife, because Bear's face was cut severely, Beatty said.
When the story was posted on an animal rescue page on Facebook, an anonymous individual or group stepped up and offered to pay for Bear's surgery and any follow-up care.
Beatty said the surgery, which cost more than $1,000, was a success.
Bear is now recovering while wearing a protective cone.
