(HAMMOND) - Investigators for the state environmental agency are seeking to determine the source of a black and silver glittery substance found on lawns in a northwest Indiana neighborhood.
Hammond resident Christel Snow tells The Times of Munster that when she walked her dog Tuesday morning it looked as though someone had dumped glitter.
Hammond environmental department director Ron Novak at first thought it might be kish graphite, which the city has fielded complaints about for more than 30 years because it comes from nearby steel mills.
But Indiana Department of Environmental Management spokesman Dan Goldblatt says the complaint described the substance as more solid than that graphite.
