(JENNINGS COUNTY) - A 16-year-old boy accidentally shot his 12-year-old brother while handling a firearm in their home late Monday night.
Jennings County deputies were called to a home in Sand Creek Township near CR 1000 North on CR275 West at 11:37 pm Monday night.
Deputies learned that the 12-year-old had been shot in the head and was not responsive.
Det. Sgt. Jim Blevins reported that the family had been shooting firearms earlier in the day. The 16-year-old was handling the weapon in the home when a .22 caliber rifle discharged, striking the 12-year-old in the head.
Other family members were asleep in the home at the time of the shooting.
The 12-year-old was airlifted to the Riley Children's hospital from the scene. His condition is not known at this time.
