(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A judge has replaced one of the jurors in the death penalty trial of a southwestern Indiana man charged with setting a 2010 fire that killed his fiance’s two children.
Judge Dan Moore removed the juror Friday after one the juror's relatives brought a note to the courtroom in Jeffersonville where 37-year-old Jeffrey Weisheit is being tried on murder and arson charges. Moore denied defense lawyers' motion for a mistrial, but a Clark County court official says Moore replaced the juror with an alternate after questioning the rest of the jury.
The bodies of 8-year-old Alyssa Lynch and 5-year-old Caleb Lynch were found inside the Vanderburgh County home Weisheit shared with the children's mother, Lisa Lynch.
Weisheit's trial was moved from Evansville to Jeffersonville because of extensive media coverage.
