(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Pence has apologized for the deletion of comments on his Facebook page criticizing his stance on same-sex marriage.
Gay-marriage supporters had charged their comments were removed for no reason other than their disagreement with Pence's Wednesday declaration he'd support efforts to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage.
Pence had said he believed administrators were removing comments only on civility grounds. But with the dustup beginning to receive national attention, Pence has posted a statement of his own on Facebook, saying, "On careful review, it appears this was not always the case."
He's apologized, and says his staff is working on a standard of conduct for the page to be posted there in the days ahead.
He says the policy will be similar to those used by news organizations and other elected officials.
