(EVANSVILLE) - Residents of Evansville are being federally charged for their alleged involvement in what authorities are calling a meth trafficking ring.
Six people are being charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. This conspiracy, Joseph Hogsett says, began around November of 2011.
U.S. Attorney Hogsett says 29-year-old Joshua Chaffin is alleged to have lead the scheme to get large quantities of meth and distribute it throughout the Evansville area.
Also arrested were William Hollis, Travis Sutton, Gary Winstead, Jr., Michael Harweck, and Jennifer Chumley.
WFIE reports, according to the indictment, properties on Beckman Avenue and Belmar Lane in Evansville were among those used to store meth and money having to do with the alleged conspiracy. Hogsett tells 14 News that these arrests come after two other federal methamphetamine busts in the Evansville area in recent weeks.
"While that on one level may be sad to report, it should give the people of Evansville a large measure of comfort that local, state and federal law enforcement are watching out for their interests and doing everything to address the scourge of methamphetamine in and around southwestern Indiana," says Hogsett
All six defendants could face 10 years to life in prison if they're found guilty.
