(INDIANAPOLIS) - If you are looking for a job, the U.S. State Department might be looking for you.
While not describing it as desperate, the Department says there is a sizeable need for foreign service officers. It's one reason why department recruiters are traveling across the country looking for potential diplomats, a tour that will bring them to Indianapolis tonight. The department hosts a Careers in Foreign Affairs Open House from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
Terry Davidson, the director of recruitment outreach for the department says the event will feature a panel of Foreign Service and Civil Service officers who grew up and studied in Indiana before launching their State Department careers.
Davidson says new Foreign Service Officers are needed now to fill positions being vacated worldwide by current and future retirees. He says news of attacks on U.S. properties overseas, such as last year's attack on the Consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed Ambassador Chris Stephens and three other Americans, usually cause a surge in applications for the Foreign Service.
David says there will not be interviews of prospective candidates as you might find at a job fair, but says anyone interested will have the chance to start the application process.
