The rate of violent crime in Indianapolis has increased since 2011, according to an annual report released by the FBI Monday.
In 2012, there were more than 770 more reports of violent crimes than in 2011, an increase of 8.4 percent. According to the data, most of the crimes were reported as aggravated assaults.
The total number of violent crimes reported in Indianapolis was 9,170 in 2011 and 9,946 in 2012.
Among major Indiana cities, Evansville had lower instances of violent crime with 491 reports in 2011 and 560 reports in 2012.
