(LOGANSPORT) - Two brothers are safe after emergency responders rescued them from a rain-swollen northern Indiana river.
20-year-old Dave Hellyer and 15-year-old Charles Hellyer of Logansport were swimming in the Eel River Saturday afternoon when they got caught in an undertow.
The Pharos-Tribune reports they were able to cling to a pumping station before avoid being swept over a dam.
Authorities say the two yelled to a passing motorist to call 911, and firefighters using a rescue boat were able to pull each swimmer to shore.
Paramedics examined the two at the scene and released them.
The National Weather Service says heavy rains pushed the depth of the Eel River from 4 feet Friday to 7½ feet Saturday.
