(INDIANAPOLIS) - A woman accused of running a dog flipping scam has been arrested.
Police said the unidentified woman pretended a missing dog was her own and then attempted to sell it on Craigslist.
Officials say pet owners need to stay alert to avoid being victims themselves.
"If you've got a purebred animal worth a lot of money, with the economy as bad as it is, people are doing whatever they can to make money," said Marcus Brown with Indianapolis Animal Care and Control.
The woman is charged with theft and attempted theft.
Rosie, the dog she was allegedly trying to sell, has been reunited with her real owners.
Officials say one way to protect your pet is to get them microchipped. The cheapest way to get your pet microchipped is at animal control for $10 flat. You can also check with your local humane society or low-cost spay and neuter clinic for cheap options.
