(INDIANAPOLIS) - A young girl is recovering from a gunshot wound in Riley Hospital for Children after she brought to another Indianapolis hospital with an unknown injury.
The four-year-old, who is a month shy of her fifth birthday, according to a police report, was originally brought to Community East Hospital around 8 p.m. Monday.
She was then transported to Riley, where she underwent surgery and was last reported in stable, but good condition.
Police she was shot in her upper leg. The shooting apparently happened in the 4100 block of Edgemere Court.
The child's mother called dispatchers to report that her daughter was injured, but police say the gunshot wound wasn't found until medics treated the girl at the hospital. Off-duty police working security in the neighborhood originally believed she had run into a parked car.
Police don't know where the gunshot came from, and have no suspects at this time.
