(UNION CITY) - The family mourning the loss of 8-year-old Dylan Williams says his organs will be donated.
The family say they would like to one day meet the donor recipients and learn how much of an impact Dylan had on their lives.
The all-star died after what doctors say was an extremely rare accident on the baseball field.
The accident happened Tuesday when Dylan was playing first base during practice and a ball was thrown to him and hit him in the neck. After being hit he collapsed.
Dylan's dad says that by the time he got to the hospital, oxygen was not reaching his brain, and Dylan was brain dead. He was taken off life support the next day.
Doctors say even a chest protector would not have prevented this very rare condition from occurring.
Dylan's team is scheduled to play in an all-star tournament Saturday. The status of those games is unclear.
In 2007, a minor league coach died from a similar injury.
Mike Coolbaugh, a hitting coach for the Tulsa Drillers was hit in the neck by a line drive as he was standing in the first-base coaching box.
After that, Major League Baseball ruled that base coaches had to wear helmets.
