(EVANSVILLE) - On Friday, the Vatican announced that Pope John Paul II will be declared a saint by the end of this year.
Pope Francis cleared Pope John Paul II for sainthood after approving a miracle attributed to John Paul's intercession.
The Vatican says John Paul's first miracle happened when a french nun was healed of Parkinson's disease. The second miracle, the one Francis approved on Friday, involved the healing of a Costa Rican woman of a cerebral aneurysm.
Catholic officials believe Pope John Paul II will be canonized, along with Pope John XXIII in December.
An official date has not been set for the canonization.
