(MONTICELLO) - A northern Indiana sheriff says boaters rescued a 5-year-old boy they spotted floating face down in the water.
White County Sheriff Patrick Shafer says a family was boating on Big Monon Creek north of Lake Shafer when they noticed a 3-year-old boy standing naked on a dock. When they drove closer, they saw the other boy and pulled him from the water.
Shafer says the mother of the two boys was unaware they were outside Wednesday afternoon because she was asleep in their nearby home in the area about 30 miles north of Lafayette.
The 5-year-old boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for observation.
The boy's name wasn't immediately released. Police and child protective services are investigating.
