(CARMEL) - A house fire on East 111th Street in Carmel slightly injured the homeowner and caused about $300,000 in damage.
Carmel Fire crews were called to the scene in the 500 block of E. 111th St. just before 6 am Wednesday between Pennsylvania Street and College Avenue.
When firefighters arrived huge flames wereshooting out from the top of the 5,000-square-foot home.
The homeowner was asleep at the time of the fire and was awakened by the alarm system. He escaped the fire as fire crews arrived, and was taken to a local hospital for observation.
Firefighters believe the fire started at the rear of the house. The homeowner had been grilling outside the night before and the fire appears to have originated in that area.
The home sustained major damage up to $300,000.
