(UNDATED) - A six-year-old Illinois boy is recovering at a Chicago hospital after he was completely buried under sand at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Nathan Woessner and his family were enjoying a day at the beach when the incident happened last Friday.
National Lakeshore officials still don't know what caused the sand to give way. Nathan was in an area that was restricted after Dunes officials planted new grass... but he says the area was still considered safe.
In the meantime, the non-profit Unity Foundation of LaPorte County has begun raising money for Nathan's family to help cover his hospitalization costs.
