(SOUTH BEND) - A northern Indiana county has authorized repairs along an overpass where a truck plunged Sunday onto railroad tracks below, killing its driver.
The St. Joseph County Commissioners declared an emergency situation Tuesday along the Jasinski overpass.
The South Bend Tribune reports that county engineer Jessica Clark says temporary steps may be taken in the coming days to provide sidewalk and fence repairs on the overpass before permanent repaired are made to the structure. Clark said she did not know how much the improvements would cost.
Police say 59-year-old Michael Strantz of South Bend died Sunday night after his truck plunged off the overpass, possibly after he experienced a medical episode.
