(ELKHART) - The Elkhart Humane Society put a dog down after it was severely injured from picking up a firework thrown at it late Thursday night.
An Elkhart city police officer brought it into the Humane Society and they had to put it down because the injuries were so severe.
Officials said it's too early in the investigation to comment, but they are working with animal control to determine if it's indeed a case of animal abuse. They have not determined who the owner is and have no suspects at this time.
