(STEUBEN COUNTY) - The man wanted for a 1989 Steuben County murder is back in Indiana after authorities found him in India two years ago.
FBI agents brought Muhfuz Huq back to the Hoosier state Saturday afternoon. He arrived at the Indianapolis airport around 12:41 p.m. Huq had been in New Dehli, Indiana where he was in a prison waiting extradition back to the United States.
Once at the airport, Marion County Sheriff's deputies took custody of Huq. He was then taken to the department's medical holding facility for a routine examination by medical staff.
"Due to Mr. Huq's unknown medical care background while housed in a foreign prison system, the Marion County Sheriff's Office is best equipped and staffed to take temporary custody of Mr. Huq for observations prior to his return to the Steuben County Jail," Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer said. "Once Mr. Huq is cleared by medical staff, he will be returned to the Steuben County Jail for proceedings in Steuben County Court."
In 2011, WANE reported that Huq was found in New Dehli after avoiding authorities for more than 22 years.
