(UNDATED) - According to the Indiana State Police, Saturday morning at 6:30, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence at 1269 West County Road 650 South, near the town of Carlisle, reporting a shooting.
Deputies Bill Snead and David Holmes responded and found a female victim in a side yard of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital and later flown by Lifeline Air Ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Her condition is believed to be critical.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred during a domestic argument.
The victim was identified as Joann Sue Pierce, 37, of 1269 W. CR 650 South, Carlisle.
Adam Keith Bales, 32, same address, has been arrested and preliminary charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery and Criminal Confinement. He is incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail with no bond.
The 911 call was made by Adam Bales. Bales and Pierce resided together at the residence.
ISP Detective First Sergeant Jeff Hearon is the lead investigator. Assisting is ISP Crime Scene Investigator Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Sullivan County Prosecutor's Office and Sullivan County EMS.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
