(FORT WAYNE) - A man accused of fatally shooting another man in the parking lot of an American Legion Post was formally charged Friday with murder and illegal possession of a gun.
Eric J. Smith, known as Smitty, had been arrested on suspicion of killing Jabron Q. Totton on June 9. Along with the murder charge, Smith faces a felony count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
His designation as a felon comes from a 1998 conviction in Allen Superior Court on a charge of dealing cocaine or a narcotic drug.
