(INDIANAPOLIS) - A crash Interstate 65 near downtown Indianapolis claimed the life of one driver Monday.
Traffic on I-65 northbound was diverted onto I-70 eastbound at the north split, while officers investigated the crash.
State police say 29-year-old Allan Jackson of Indianapolis was driving south on I-65 and struck another vehicle in the rear. That vehicle spun and struck a third vehicle.
Witnesses say Jackson continued south on I-65 at a high rate of speed and lost control of his pick-up truck on a curve. The vehicle went over an embankment and rolled several times, coming to rest in the northbound lanes of the interstate.
Jackson was pulled from his truck by other motorists. He was taken to Wishard Hospital where he later died.
Investigators don't know why Jackson fled the scene of the first crash, but say he was driving on a suspended driver's license.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
The highway reopened after about 40 minutes.
