(UNDATED) - Warnings are going out about the dangers of lightning.
The National Weather Service says only 3 percent of lightning injuries are caused by a direct hit.
8-percent of lightning deaths happen under trees while people are seeking shelter and 37-percent of deaths happen in open fields or highways.
Three children were hospitalized over the weekend following a reported lightning strike at an Indianapolis campground.
