(EVANSVILLE) - A postal worker at Evansville’s mail-processing center faces a theft for allegedly opening personal mail and stealing money and gift cards.
Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that 52-year-old Ann K. Gauer has been charged with theft of mail by a postal employee.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/15wlxmW) that court documents say Gauer opened numerous envelopes containing greeting cards between December 2012 and February 2013, and took money and gift debit cards that she used "for her personal benefit."
The complaint cites one example in which Gauer allegedly removed a $30 Wal-Mart gift card from a birthday greeting in January 2013 and used it two days later to buy merchandise for herself.
