(UNDATED) - Thousands of central Indiana schoolchildren will receive school supplies thanks to the Backpack Attack.
The campaign to collect items ran through Friday.
Committee member Mandy Emery says the program is a collaboration of nine different companies that collect school supplies from about 140 other companies. Emery says the supplies are brought into a warehouse at IUPUI where they are counted and sorted and then UPS coordinates logistics. UPS takes the number of students at each school enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program and then they are divided accordingly.
Supplies collected include backpacks, pencils, markers and folders, and other items.
Emery says 5,000 stuffed backpacks will be distributed Saturday, July 27th to schools across central Indiana.
