(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Police said a West Lafayette man was lured out of his home this week by an ex-girlfriend who then pointed a gun at him. According to court documents, it was an attempted murder-suicide.
WLFI reports, it all started with a text message last Sunday night on Villefranche Drive, just off Happy Hollow Road.
According to court documents, 43-year-old Shannon Robertson of Indianapolis texted James Brent Harmon to tell him she left some of things outside his home. He went outside to find his belongings and that's when he spotted Robertson. Documents say she raised her arms and pointed a gun at him.
Lt. Troy Harris with the West Lafayette Police Department said Harmon reported he heard a click of the shot gun, but it never fired. Court documents say Robertson later admitted that she came to West Lafayette with the intention of shooting Harmon and then committing suicide.
"It's truly a miracle that the gun didn't fire. I think her intention was obviously to kill the victim, that was her intent, and for whatever reason, the gun didn't fire that night," said Harris.
Court documents state that on July 2, Harmon reported threatening text messages he received from Robertson. She told him she would continue to pester him, that she would destroy him, and she did not care if she went to jail.
A deputy clerk with Tippecanoe Superior Court says charges have not yet been filed against Robertson. Harris said she could be facing an attempted murder charge.
