(BATESVILLE) - Indiana State Excise Police officers seized a still and other items used to distill liquor at a Batesville home Tuesday.
Excise officers served a search warrant at 129 Hillenbrand Avenue in Batesville Monday looking for items related to the unlawful manufacturing of liquor.
Several items associated with making distilled spirits were seized from the residence, including a whiskey barrel that appears to contain homemade whiskey. Other items seized included self-learning manuals and books on how to make whiskey.
Excise officers were assisted by the Batesville Police Department and Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel.
Possession of a still or distilling apparatus is a Class C Misdemeanor. Other charges, including a felony and misdemeanors, are also possible.
Anyone with information on unlawful liquor manufacturing can provide an anonymous tip to the State Excise Police at 812-523-8314.
As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
