(PUTNAMVILLE) - An investigation is underway for a weapon that is unaccounted for at the Putnamville correctional facility, Indiana Department of Correction spokesman Doug Garrison said.
The weapon, a nine millimeter Glock handgun, was discovered missing about two weeks ago during a routine inventory. The gun is missing from an area outside of the secured offender holding area.
Garrison described the area as one used for the secured arrival and departure of inmates.
Garrison said that the inmates who are in the transportation area are always secured in what they call "trip gear," which includes handcuffs and shackles.
An investigation is underway by state police to determine how the weapon came to be missing.
