(JOHNSON CO.) - The man wanted in the death of 26-year-old Kelly Moss is in police custody.
On Tuesday, police spent the day searching for David Lawrence in Johnson County in connection with the August 22 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Kelly Moss.
Undercover officers from the IMPD Violent Crimes Unity tracked Lawrence to the Sweetwater area in southern Johnson County, where they believed he was holed up in a house.
Lawrence is the prime suspect in Moss's death. Her body was found wrapped up in a carpet.
People who live around Sweetwater knew something big was happening after seeing several police officers from different agencies swarm one area.
"It's a local area, the Sweetwater area. They have their own community and with him being there, it interrupts the innocence of the Sweetwater community," said Regina Atkins, who works in the area.
"There is so many little nooks and crannies and a lot of abandoned houses to go out, hide in," said Scott Ashley.
