(BROAD RIPPLE) - Indianapolis Metropolitan police detectives arrested a Westfield man accused of shooting four people in the Broad Ripple area early Friday morning.
According to police, Tristan Crayton, 28, was arrested on counts of battery with injury and criminal recklessness. The shooting happened after Crayton and a friend got into an argument with another man and were ejected from RA Niteclub.
According to an IMPD incident report, Crayton said he'd done it all in self-defense because the people he shot were trying to attack him and had already assaulted one of his friends.
Crayton told police he tried to get his friends into a vehicle when Andrew Allen, Gabriel Daniels and Raymond Williams accosted them. One of Crayton's friends was punched in the face.
According to IMPD, Crayton has a lifetime permit to carry and fired his gun, hitting Allen, Daniels and Williams. A fourth person, Samuel Wade, was hit by a stray bullet. Police said Wade was an innocent bystander and wasn't involved the dispute between Crayton and the other men.
An off-duty IMPD reserve officer arrived shortly after that and located three of the victims. Responding officers found Williams. Crayton approached officers and told them what happened. He was taken into custody and his handgun was retrieved.
