(CARMEL) - Carmel firefighters say a house fire that caused extensive damage to a home Wednesday morning started in the attic, then spread to the garage and sun room.
Firefighters were called to the 13000 block of Versailles at around 2 am.
The homeowner, David Lowe, says smoke alarm woke him up. Three adults and the family's pets escaped unharmed.
The fire was burning out the back of the house when firefighters arrived.
The house had significant damage above the garage, while a neighboring house was damaged to a lesser extent.
Damage to the residence where the fire started is estimated to be in excess of $100,000.Damage to the neighbor's house is estimated to be $20,000.
The cause has not been determined.
Westfield firefighters also assisted at the scene.
