(INDIANAPOLIS) - State police said they have made two arrests for passing counterfeit money at this year’s Indiana State Fair.
RTV6 reports that one woman actually told troopers the phony bills came from her selling drugs earlier in the week.
The woman surprised troopers by claiming she obtained the fake bills by selling a quantity of marijuana. She claimed the drug buyer gave her the funny money.
She was caught in a ride portion of the midway while trying to pass one of the fake bills, and the state police supervisor said she was found with more phony bills in her purse when troopers arrived at the booth.
The Call 6 Investigators requested the arrest report, but Indiana State Police headquarters declined to release the document. The department also declined to release details of the second counterfeit currency arrest at this year's state fair.
WISH TV 6 reports, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office declined to file charges against either of the arrested fair patrons, resulting in both being released from the Marion County Jail.
The state police supervisor involved in the woman's arrest told the Call 6 Investigators that many state fair vendors are checking dollar bills, using a counterfeit-detecting marker, so he suggested the fair is "the last place" that a person should try to pass fake cash.
