(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man and a woman were killed in a crash early Monday on Interstate 74 on Indianapolis’ southeast side, Indiana State Police said.
The crash happened just after midnight on the eastbound lanes of I-74 near Post Road when two motorcyclists were speeding before losing control. The man and the woman riding one of the motorcycles reached a high rate of speed before falling off. After crashing, they were run over by several oncoming vehicles, police said. The other drivers that struck the motorcycle driver and his passenger stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.
The victims were identified as Devon Criswell, 41, and Jacquelynn Lewis, 23, both from Indianapolis. Police said Criswell and Lewis were not wearing helmets. Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors to the crash, investigators said.
While neither motorcyclist struck each other or any other vehicle, the driver of the second motorcycle did not stop at the scene and is believed to have exited I-74 at the Post Road exit. Indiana State Police crash investigators are asking for the public's help to find the driver of the second motorcycle. Anyone with information about the second motorcyclist is asked to call the Indianapolis State Police Post at 317-899-8577. Anonymous calls with information may be made to Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.
