(UNDATED) - The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service is looking at a new way to generate more revenue.
It now wants to now be able to ship alcohol.
The agency wants Congress to make it legal to use the mail to ship beer, wine and liquor. It's something competitors like FedEx and UPS can already do.
Congress would have to overturn a 100-year-old temperance-era law that bans that type of shipping.
In 2012, the postal service lost $16 billion.
The agency has also exhausted a $15 billion of credit from the U.S. Treasury.
