(SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich.) - Police say 2-year-old James Nelson was found dead in his car seat in a van Tuesday evening.
Neither his mother, 21-year-old Audrionna Rhoades, nor her roommate remember putting him in the van, police in Michigan said.
An autopsy has determined that the child died of hypothermia. Officials believe he was in the van for 10 to 11 hours.
The child was found unresponsive in a vehicle about 6:00 p.m., and officers say the child had been dead for several hours, WXYZ reported.
EMS and police transported the boy to Troy Beaumont hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At the time he was examined his temperature was 108 degrees.
Police said the boy's death remains under investigation.
