Excise Officers Arrest 31 Early Sunday

Last updated on Monday, September 30, 2013

(EVANSVILLE) - Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested 31 people for underage drinking at a party in rural Vanderburgh County early Sunday morning.

Shortly after midnight, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office deputies and State Excise Police officers responded to a citizen complaint of loud noise in the 3200 block of Five Dollar Road five miles west of Evansville.

As a result of their investigation, officers arrested 31 minors, all of whom were 18-20 years of age, for underage drinking. Some tested as high as .183% BAC.

Charges related to furnishing alcohol to minors are still pending as officers continue their investigation.

All of those charged this morning will appear in Vanderburgh Misdemeanor Court in December.

As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
