(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two 18-year-olds are now facing murder charges after the homeowner they’re accused of beating during a burglary attempt last week died.
Kyle Mitchell and Dechel Dossett are being held at the Marion County Jail after the Sept. 4th attack. Kenneth Haskins, 54, died from his injuries.
On Sept. 4th, Metro Police got a call around 6:00 a.m. of a person in the street near 1550 North Hawthorne Lane, close to Community East Hospital. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Kenneth Haskins, bleeding heavily from the head.
Police say Kyle Mitchell and Dechel Dossett, both 18 of Indianapolis, were allegedly burglarizing Haskins' home when he returned and interrupted them. The suspects ambushed the homeowner and beat him.
Mitchell and Dossett left the home with the stolen property and two of the victim's cars.
Police later recovered both cars and detained both suspects later Wednesday morning.
Both suspects are facing preliminary charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary, auto theft and theft. Because Haskins did not survive, the two 18-year-olds are also facing murder charges.
