(CHALMERS) - Two people were stabbed late Saturday night, after White County deputies said a yard game turned competitive.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of S. 22nd Street in Chalmers.
White County Sheriff Patrick Shafer said when deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered there was a party at the home.
Witnesses stated that a verbal argument ensued between several people playing a yard game. Witnesses said that's when the argument escalated into a physical fight, and several people were stabbed.
Deputies said 31-year-old Christopher Walker of Chalmers, 34-year-old Roy Beatty of Lafayette, 26-year-old Keith Moon of Lafayette, and 35-year-old Michael Reed of Lafayette, all sustained injuries during the fight, and were taken to Lafayette area hospitals. Deputies have not confirmed yet which two were stabbed.
Deputies said 25-year-old Daniel Kelly of Lafayette, refused treatment at the scene.
Two of the injured people that were taken to the hospital, were treated and released and two were admitted for treatment.
Deputies identified a person of interest, who was later detained by officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana State Police. The person of interest was questioned, and later released.
Evidence collected in the case will be processed by the Indiana State Police Crime Lab prior to review of the case by the White County Prosecutor's Office.
