(SOUTH BEND) - A SWAT team and numerous police officers surrounded a South Bend home for more than an hour before a 76-year-old man surrendered.
Officers were called to the home in a subdivision on the city's northwest side on Sunday about a domestic dispute. South Bend police Division Chief Gary Horvath says the man's wife was outside the house when officers arrived and told them her husband was inside with a handgun.
Officers had residents leave several nearby homes but were able to later persuade the man to leave the house. Horvath says he was taken a hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries that weren't life-threatening.
WNDU-TV reports county prosecutors will decide whether the man will face any criminal charges.
