(NEW ALBANY) - A southern Indiana county’s leaders are worried about the ever-growing pile of bills from the third trial of a former state trooper on charges that he killed his wife and two young children.
Floyd County officials are estimating the current trial of David Camm will cost $1.1 million and that they'll need to arrange a loan to pay expenses before the year's over.
The Courier-Journal reports the county has paid nearly $725,000 this year for Camm's defense attorneys and experts. Nearly $150,000 has gone to the special prosecutor, with that amount expected to grow.
Sheriff Darrell Mills says many residents are upset at the costs as the trial goes on in central Indiana's Boone County.
Camm two previous convictions for the September 2000 shootings were thrown out on appeal.
